  11. A list server is an automated way of sending email messages to all members of
  12. a group. There are 2 email addresses which access the server - the first is
  13. where you send any commands to, the second is where you send your messages
  14. to. Let's join the group first (i.e. add your name to the list).

  16. FIRST EMAIL ADDRESS
  17.  
  18. This is where you send COMMANDS to the list server - the 2 commands of most
  19. importance are SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE. To subscribe to (join) the list
  20. server, send the following case sensitive message: SUBSCRIBE korg-i to the
  21. following address: korg-i-request@mail.well.fi
  22.  
  23. Don't put any subject in the subject line, just the subscribe command as the
  24. first and only line of the message. You should switch off any signature file
  25. which gets added to the end of your email messages - this isn't absolutely
  26. necessary but the list server checks each line of your message and trys to
  27. execute the commands - the 'subscribe' will be OK but each line of the
  28. signature will return with an error. This doesn't matter as long as the
  29. 'subscribe' is successful. You only need to SUBSCRIBE once. The list server
  30. will read your return email address and add you to the group. It will then
  31. send a message back to you saying whether you were successful or not. You can
  32. subscribe from different email addresses if you want, for example some people
  33. may want to subscribe from home and from work.

  35. If at any time you want to leave the group, just send UNSUBSCRIBE korg-i to
  36. the above address.

  38. SECOND EMAIL ADDRESS

  40. Once subscribed, you can send messages to everyone in the group by simply
  41. sending your email to the following address: korg-i@well.fi
  42.  
  43. The list server will distibute your message to everyone in the group
  44. including a copy back to you. If you want to reply to a message, you can
  45. reply directly to the person or to the list server. For greater interest,
  46. it's better to reply to the list server so anyone else can join in the
  47. discussion. Note that when you reply, the default return address will be the
  48. message SENDER'S, not the list server. I click on REPLY then simply change
  49. the TO address to korg-i@well.fi before I send it - that way everyone sees
  50. it. Don't reply to the sender and Cc to korg-i as well since the original
  51. sender will receive two replies - one direct and one via the server.
